Another massive craze in the health industry right now is alkaline water.
I have seen bottles of alkaline water going for up to $8 for a single 20oz bottle… with all kinds of health benefits being touted.
But before you spend your hard earned money on a bottle of water, let me give you some facts.
Water is an essential nutrient. We can’t live without it. Our bodies need water for every cellular function, hydration, digestion, brain activity, and a whole out of other functions.
Alkaline water is advertised to have a high Ph level (potential hydrogen) sometimes upwards of ph 10.
Our bodies natural Ph is between 7.35 and 7.45. Anywhere outs of this range and you run into major issues. Our bodies have a very tight system for keeping our blood ph in this range.
Interestingly enough, groundwater/well water has a natural PH of between 6.5 and 8. Perfectly in line with what our bodies need to keep us in perfect homeostasis.
We need both alkaline and acidic foods/ water in order to keep your bodies healthy. Just because a food is “acidic” doesn’t mean it is “bad” for you either, this is a misconception that has been throw around quite a bit in the last few years. Neither acidic or alkaline are good or bad. They are just NECESSARY.
So here is the rub on alkaline water. By ingesting high alkaline liquid you actually are NOT changing the alkalinity of your body. Your body just has to work harder in order to filter through and use the hydrogen and oxygen in the water molecule.
The absolute best water you can drink is mineralized water direct from a spring/ or a well. Obviously not everyone can do that, so getting a good filtration system for your home is a great idea to filter out the chlorine/fluoride and other chemicals that city water has added to it. You can also buy bottled water but make sure it is from a reputable source and ensure it hasn’t been filtered to the point of being “distilled”. Water needs minerals in it fro the ground in order for our bodies to utilize it properly.
So in conclusion… stop wasting your money on expensive alkaline waters and focus more on eating nutrient dense foods, both acidic and alkaline, and drinking as natural of water as you can. Get a filter that filters out impurities, fluoride, and chlorine at the very least and make sure you are getting in all of your minerals. I will be posting more about minerals and why we are all deficient in most of them in the coming weeks.
Shoot me a private message if you have any questions on this topic! It sounds complicated but it really is quite simple.
Cheers all!
