The Badjao peoples eyes can focus underwater

The Badjao or Bajau means man of the seas, this tribal group is known as the Sea Gypsies because they move with the wind and the tide on their small houseboats called ‘vintas’, they can be found in many coastal settlements and inhabit the waters. They are an indigenous ethnic group of the Philippines. Some of the most extreme adaptions can be found in these people which help them to be master free divers.

The Badjao men could free dive to great depths and hold their breaths for five minutes while hunting along the ocean floor.

Our bodies, as complex as they are, follow a simple survival principle.

SPECIFIC-ADAPTATION-TO IMPOSED-DEMANDS

What does this mean? Simply put, your body will adapt to whatever situation you or your environment put it in.

  • Get the body too hot=Sweating
  • Cold=Shivering
  • Consume less calories than your burn=Weight loss
  • Strength train= Muscles get stronger
  • Poor sleep=Fatigue
  • Eat poorly= The body will function poorly
  • Run=Increased cardiovascular health= (also increase ventricular hypertrophy)

Don’t ever be upset that your body is or isn’t doing what you think it should be. If you force your body to adapt under the most efficient set of demands, your body will do exactly as you ask of it.

Your bodies adaptation mechanism is a powerful tool. Learn to harness it’s power and you will see just how easy it is to achieve anything when it comes to your personal health and optimization!
