In the age of the internet, we tend to take information for granted. It wasn’t that long ago that if you wanted to know or learn something, you had to either seek out those who knew it, read it in a book or encyclopedia, or go and experience it for yourself.
Think about this, the more we move into the digital age, the more information is actually lost. Why do I say that? Because as information is transcribed digitally, translated, edited, and even changed to fit into how we intake that information, ( 15-second videos for instance) we end up losing a lot of the original substance and quality.
When the grand library of Alexandria was burned in 48 B.C. (Ish) by Ceasar, we as a human species lost an unimaginable amount of information, texts, scientific research, stories, and so much more that we will NEVER get back.
The move into the digital age, in my opinion, is the modern burning of Alexandria. The way information is censored, the ability of the small group that dictates what you can and can’t find, or even search for on the internet is astounding. If you think that is untrue or “conspiracy” you should probably read the fine print on those “privacy agreements” you always agree to.
I’m not saying the internet isn’t a good thing. It’s the reason I can reach all of you with my articles right now. However, I do think we rely on it and the information contained way too much. Experience is everything when it comes to life and happiness. Close your computer, turn off your phone, and go and learn things for yourself. Build your own library at home, don’t take the first person you read froms’ word for it, research, study, learn.
Cheers everyone!
